MASTER USE LICENSE

A Master Use License Agreement grants a filmmaker, producer, or content creator the right to use a specific recorded version of a song (i.e., the "master recording") in an audiovisual project such as a film, TV show, advertisement, or digital content. This license is obtained from the owner of the master recording, typically a record label, artist, or production company. It does not cover the underlying composition (music and lyrics)—that requires a separate synchronization license from the publisher or composer. The master use license only covers the use of that specific recording as it sounds on the album, single, or file.

3. What does it include?

The agreement outlines the terms under which the master recording may be used, including the scope, fee, and any restrictions. It details what kind of project the recording can appear in, for how long, in what territories, and how it may be altered or edited. It also covers issues like credit, approval rights, and warranties.

Typical key terms and sections in a Master Use License Agreement include:

● Grant of Rights – Describes the rights being given to use the recording (e.g., in one film, worldwide, perpetuity).

● Scope of Use – Details exactly where and how the recording may be used (e.g., in the film, trailers, marketing).

● Term – How long the license lasts (e.g., in perpetuity or for a limited number of years).

● License Fee – The cost of the license, usually a flat fee or usage-based fee.

Re-Using the Form Template:

1. You may use an a la carte template unlimited times (as long as the service is available subject to Terms and Conditions). The only access to your template is via the email link. Keep it in a place you will remember. ShowbizWise will not be held responsible for lost emails and will not send replacement links.

2. Each use of the template is generated from a blank document from scratch. Your previous entries are not saved.

3. To generate a brand new document go to the "Your Legal Document is Ready" email. Click on the “[View Document]” button to open a new template and repeat the process.

NOTE: The PDF's do not save while filling them out. Save your entries on a separate document and then copy and paste the text into the PDF forms. Then print them out.
