A Billing Block is a compact, text-based credit summary traditionally placed at the bottom of a movie poster, advertisement, or key art. It displays all required screen and contractual credits—typically in a uniform, condensed typeface—and may also include logos and legal notices. The billing block ensures compliance with all credit, union, and legal obligations tied to a film’s principal cast, creative team, financiers, distributors, and production companies. It is a crucial part of marketing and legal delivery.

2. Who is it for?

A billing block is created by the Producer, production attorney, or marketing team and submitted to distributors, studios, sales agents, and exhibitors. It is essential for:

• Producers

• Production counsel

• Sales agents

• Distributors

• Studio marketing/legal departments

• Publicists and key art designers

These parties rely on it to fulfill contractual and union-mandated credit obligations.

3. What does it include?

A billing block includes all required credits in a contractual and agreed-upon order, logos, and the copyright notice for the film. It must match the on-screen end credits and adhere to any union, guild, or studio policy requirements. If a major studio is involved, its billing guidelines (often very specific) must be reviewed and followed.

• Style Guidelines (typical)

  • Font: Univers, Arial Narrow, or similar

  • Size: All credits the same point size unless contractually required otherwise

  • One block, justified and centered when used in key art
