Composer Hybrid Master Use WMFH/Synch License Agreement

1. What is it?

A hybrid deal for original score where the sound recording (master) is created as work-made-for-hire/assignment to the producer (producer owns masters and stems), while the composition (publishing) is licensed from the composer (composer keeps copyright in the music, grants sync/related rights). This structure gives distributors clear master ownership for delivery/QC, while composers retain their writer/publisher interests and collect PRO royalties.

2. Who is it for?

Producers/Studios/Sales Agents — need clean master ownership for distribution packages, trailers, and platform ingestion.
Composers/Artist-Composers — want to keep publishing and long-tail PRO income while being paid a scoring fee.
Music Supervisors/Post Supervisors — need unambiguous scope, approvals, deliverables, and cue-sheet data.
Distributors/Platforms/QC Labs — require ownership proof of masters and valid licenses over compositions.

3. What does it typically include?

A. Scope & Grant

Master (WMFH/Assignment): Composer engaged to record score as work-made-for-hire; if WMFH fails, automatic assignment of all master rights (including edits, stems, alternates).
Composition (License): Composer/publisher grant an exclusive, irrevocable sync license to the picture (and defined versions); specify media/fields of use (theatrical, TV, SVOD/AVOD/FAST, EST/TVOD, airline, educational, festivals), territory (worldwide), term (typically perpetual).
